Process

  • Your journey begins with an idea—a vision of what you want to create. Whether it's a unique piece of art, a bespoke item of decor, or a functional object, everything starts in the digital realm. Designers must craft their concepts using 3D modeling software with the specificity of clay printing in mind. While you are creating your design, imagine how wet clay will act in gravity. Considerations include:

Overhangs and Supports: Unlike plastic 3D printing, clay has different structural limits. Overhanging geometry may require supports and a large amount of post-processing which will substantially add to your quote.

Drying and Shrinkage: Clay shrinks as it dries. From the digital file to final firing, the piece will shrink from 10-15%. If precise dimensions are required, we can work with you to get your piece as close to the digital file as possible.

  • Once your design is finalised, we digitally slice your model. This slicing stage breaks down your model into layers and creates Gcode for our machines to use. Our team reviews every design, ensuring it's optimised for the best results.

  • Our state-of-the-art clay 3D printers bring your design to life, layer by layer. Using specially mixed clay, the printer extrudes material through a nozzle, meticulously constructing your design from the ground up. This process can take anywhere from minutes to days, depending on the complexity and size of the piece.

  • After printing, your creation undergoes a careful drying process to prevent cracks and ensure structural stability. Once dry, it's fired in a kiln, transforming the clay into ceramic. This process not only hardens the material but also makes it suitable for glazes or paints, offering a plethora of finishing options to bring out the true beauty of your design. The piece is ready for delivery at this point however we also offer a post-processing service, where the prints can be sanded to remove the layer lines and glazed with your choice of colour.

  • The final step is the most rewarding — receiving your finished piece. Each creation is carefully packed and shipped to your doorstep, ready to inspire awe and spark conversation.
